Vransko Lake: A must-visit nature park

Lake Vrana is a large freshwater lake located near the village of Vrana on the island of Cres. It is a true island wonder of nature and the only source of drinking water on the island. That is why access to the lake is strictly prohibited. Since 1953, water has been supplied by pressure pumps it rises from the lake into the reservoir, from where it flows freely into the settlements.


The lake is cryptodepression. Its greatest depth is 61.5 m below the sea surface, while its the transverse level reaches about 13 m above sea level. It is about 5.5 km long and up to 1.5 km wide. The lake is full of fish: eels, tench, redfin, chub and huge pike. Fishing is also prohibited.
